The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, North West is located at Gandhi Nagar. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General SP Sharma, PTM, TM. The Coast Guard has a force level of one OPV, one FPV, one IPV, two Hovercrafts, eight IB, two Dornier aircraft and two ALH helicopters in this region. |

SEARCH AND RESCUE |

On 02 Jul 10 at 1000 hrs, Coast Guard Station Veraval received information about sighting of a suspicious boat near Veraval harbour. The station immediately swung into action by activating the local fishing community, Marine Police and District Officials. The Coast Guard team along with a few local fisherman and Marine Police braved through the rough seas and located the boat 15 miles from the coast. On sighting the suspicious boat the scene was alarming, as 07 of its crew members were seen to be lying dehydrated on the deck unable to move or talk due extreme exhaustion. Without loosing any further time the rescued personnel were provided with first aid, ORS and water beside towing the boat to Veraval. On reaching Veraval harbour at about 1300 hrs the crew was immediately evacuated and transferred to the Government hospital. The crew, after they regained consciousness, were interrogated and it revealed that they belonged to Somalia. |

64th National Independence day was celebrated at Indian Coast Guard Station Gandhi Nagar and a Barakhana was organised at Coast Guard in-living block at Sector 13. A cultural programme was also organised by ship's company on the occassion. |

Intra Regional Swimming championship was held on 13 Aug 10 at Gandhinagar. Teams from various units of the region participated. Indian Coast Guard Station Porbandar stood runner up and Indian Coast Guard Station Okha won the trophy. |

CGWWA ACTIVITIES |

As a part of outreach programme, Tatrakshika (North West) organised a visit to a Deaf and Dumb School named 'Samarpan' in Gandhinagar. President, CGWWA (NW), Mrs Ila Sharma and other members of CGWWA interacted with the children and presented them gifts and encouraged them to study well and be self sufficient. |
