The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General VSR Murthy, PTM, TM. The Region has a force level of one OPV, two FPV, two FPV (Jet) one IPV, three IB, two Dornier aircraft and one Chetak helicopter in this region.

Search and Rescue

On 03 Mar 12, DHQ-9 received message from RHQ (A&N) regarding boat adrift with 99 Bangladeshi nationals. SAR operation was launched by deploying ICGS C-145. ICGS Kanaklata Barua was also diverted for mission while on patrol in NGI. In a well co-ordinated operation all 99 Bangladeshi nationals were rescued and handed over to Diglipur police.


A shramdan was conducted on 03 Mar 2012 at sea front of   DHQ-9 to clear all non degradable material. The aim of event was to conserve and protect Marine Environment. CG personnel collected large quantity of non- marine/degradable materials like glass bottles, fishing nets, plasticware etc.

COMCG VISIT          

Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) paid a visit to RSD (PB) on 26 Mar 2012.  He inspected stores, store management, item database and witnessed fire exercise  in depot premises.

Welcome Ceremony of ICGS C-146

The ship arrived at Port Blair on 29 Mar 12 on re-basing. On arrival, a welcome ceremony was organised for the ship at CG jetty. The Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) embarked on board for walk around of the ship.

Golf Cup Championship 2012

COMCG (A&N) Golf  Cup Championship 2012 was conducted at Brichganj Golf Ground on 31 Mar 2012. Officers from inter services participated in the championship. The winners were felicitated with trophy and souvenirs.

Community Interaction

ICGS Hut Bay organised a Joint Community Interaction with Police, Forest and Fisheries department for local fishermen at VK Pur on 06 Mar 12.  During the interaction, demonstration of life saving equipment and operation of DAT during emergencies at sea was given.

Community Interaction Programme was conducted by DHQ 9 at Laxmipur Community Hall on 19 Mar 12 in coordination with Local Panchayat and Fisheries Department. The interaction programme included lectures and demonstrations on Disaster Management, life saving equipment, calling/answering procedures and pronunciation of the numbers and safety measures for fishermen at sea.  Demonstration of wearing of life jackets and use of life buoy at sea were also undertaken.

ICGS Bhikhaiji Cama organised community interaction programme at Kamorta on 22 Mar 12. The purpose of interaction was to generate awareness on issues pertaining to fishing community safety and sensitized them on aspects of coastal security. The Coast Guard team also demonstrated life saving equipment such as EPIRB, SART, life jacket, life buoy, etc.

ICGS Aruna Asaf Ali organised a Community Interaction programme at Rangat Bay on 24 Mar 12 in consultation with local fisheries department. Around 45 fisherman and officials from fisheries department participated in  the programme. The lecture was delivered  on various aspects which includes survival, first aid techniques, carriage of valid documents and importance of securing fishing boats and OBMs to prevent  snatching by intruders/Poachers.
