The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General KC Pande, TM. The Region has a force level of one OPV, two FPVs, two FPVs(Jet), one IPV, one IB, two Dornier aircraft and one Chetak helicopter in this region.

DISTRIBUTION OF DISTRESS ALERT TRANSMITTER

Indian Coast Guard has distributed “Distress Alert Transmitters” (DATs) to fishermen of North and Middle Andaman Islands on 04 Mar 11 at a function organized at Panchayat Bhavan, Mayabundar in presence of Shri Shakti Sinha, Chief Secretary, A&N Administration and Inspector General  KC Pande, TM, Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N).

DISTRIBUTION OF DATS TO FISHERMEN

RESCUE OF MYANMARESE ADRIFT FISHERMEN

MRCC Yangon on 19 Mar 11 intimated that a large number of Myanmarese fishermen were missing at sea who ventured in severe weather between 14-17 Mar 11. On receipt of the message, MRCC(PB) activated International safety net message to alert the vessels in area for rescue operation. ICGS Aruna Asaf Ali  recovered 3 persons. Fishermen were rescued in groups of 2-3 on different bamboo rafts and were in severe dehydrated condition. ICGS Durgabai Deshmukh and the team of Coast Guard District Headquarters - 9, Diglipur, have also rescued 23 fishermen on 25-26 Mar 11 from the north Andaman.The Search and Rescue operation by the Indian Coast Guard and other government local bodies has resulted in rescuing of 121 Myanmarese nationals in Andaman Sea since 22 Mar 11.
