The Regional Headquarters of Coast Guard, Andaman & Nicobar Region is located at Port Blair. Presently the Region is commanded by Inspector General KC Pande, TM. The Region has a force level of one OPV, two FPVs, two FPVs(Jet), one IPV, two IB, two Dornier aircraft and one Chetak helicopter in this region.

OIL SPILL RESPONSE WORKSHOP

A presentation on 'Oil Spill Response' with emphasis on oil spill in A&N islands  was held at CGCR, RHQ (A&N) on   05 Jun 2011. The Commander Coast Guard Region (A&N) with dignitaries from state administration, ONGC, OSRL and other stakeholders have participated on this occasion. Lt Gen. NC Marwah, AVSM, CINCAN   also visited CG Wharf. Live demonstration of PR equipment  was conducted at CG Wharf.

OBSERVANCE OF INTERNATIONAL DAY AGAINST DRUG ABUSE

An interactive session on the eve of  "International Day against Drug abuse" and illicit trafficking was conducted by CGS(PB) on 26 Jun 11. During the session, a lecture on “Think Health, Not Drugs” was delivered by the Regional Medical Officer.

COMMUNITY INTERACTION

        Indian Coast Guard ship ICGS Durgabai Deshmukh conducted community interaction with local fishermen at Lucknow Village - Mayabandar on 09 Jun 11. Shri Martin Davis, Superintendant Fisheries Department Mayabandar, Saw Lerwa Rampur Gram Panchayat Pradhan and Thomson Pradhan  along with 45 fishermen participated in this event. The nature of duties and “Role of Indian Coast Guard in present scenario of Coastal Security” was the theme of community interaction. Toll free number ‘1093’ was highlighted to fishermen and requested to report on sighting of any unusual activity at sea. Fishermen were also appraised on Coast Guard search and rescue toll free no '1554'. Various life saving equipment i.e. life jackets, life buoys etc. were demonstrated and the importance of carrying these equipment at sea was also explained.

      A joint community interaction was also conducted by ICGS Varad and ICGS Hut Bay with fishermen of Hut Bay, RK Pur and VK Pur villages on 10 Jun 11.
